Abstract photography looks to the more intimate, smaller scenes in nature and may isolate a part of a natural scene to take out it's inherent context from the viewer. It often uses color, light, shadow, texture, and shape to evoke feelings and delight senses.
As a world-class landscape photographer, Kane Engelbert is an expert in finding these intimate scenes. It takes a special eye for seeing little details that many others can overlook. Check out Kane's abstract photography gallery where you can find his fine art prints for sale.
Here's a few tips for creating stunning abstract photography.
Find Shapes & Patterns
Shapes and patterns are everywhere. If you don't see them, look closer. Often with abstract photography you need to ignore the subject, zoom in, get closer, and look for little details that come alive when you get closer to them.

Look for Light and Shadows
Find the light, or lack of it! Light and shadows often lead to interesting intimate scenes.

Find Texture
This doesn't have to be realistic texture, it could be shapes that convey texture. However, with landscape photography these textures will likely be things you could actually reach out and touch. Waves, sand, rocks, plants, tree leaves or trunks...

Create Movement
A technique called Intentional Camera Movement can create a blur of the scene which creates an abstract image. This could also be done with post-processing or prolonged exposure.

A little color can go a long way! Again, get intimate, up close and personal.
